Eintracht Braunschweig battle back to earn draw

Eintracht Braunschweig come from a goal behind to draw 1-1 with Nuremberg at home and get their first point of the Bundesliga season.

Bundesliga newcomers Eintracht Braunschweig have battled back to earn a 1-1 draw at home to Nuremberg.

Karim Bellarabi, on loan from fellow German side Bayer Leverkusen, had a good opportunity to put his side ahead after 10 minutes, but his heavy touch allowed Raphael Schafer to smuggle the ball away.

The quality of football was poor from both teams in the opening 45 minutes, but a moment of magic gave the visitors the lead just before the half-hour mark.

Timothy Chandler skipped past a couple of feeble Braunschweig challenges on the right wing and swept a cross into Adam Hlousek, who converted from close range.

Daniel Ginczek had the chance to double his side's advantage immediately after the break, but sliced his effort wide when in a one-on-one situation with the goalkeeper.

Marvin Plattenhardt's strong effort went close for the away side, before Bellarabi had his second chance of the game at the other end.

The German midfielder had a hand in his team's first home goal of the season just minutes later, though, as he teed up Omar Elabdellaoui to level the scores.

Ermin Bicakcic and Norman Theuerkauf were both denied by Schafer in the dying stages as Braunschweig pushed for a winner, but the hosts had to settle for a draw as they earned their first point of the campaign.
