Queens Park Rangers dig deep to see off Dundee United

Queens Park Rangers battle to a 2-1 victory over Dundee United at the Hive Stadium, courtesy of goals from Matty Phillips and Massimo Luongo.

Queens Park Rangers have stepped up their preparations for the new Championship campaign by beating Dundee United 2-1 at the Hive Stadium.

The Hoops came close to finding a way through just 10 minutes in, as Jamie Mackie's shot was only kept out by Luis Zwick's fine stop.

A QPR side containing Charlie Austin up top did manage to get the better of Zwick soon after, though, with Matty Phillips racing onto a through-ball and sliding home the opener.

It did not take long for the Terrors to hit back, as Mario Bilate slid the ball beyond Robert Green following a hopeful pass over the top to level things up in Barnet.

Paul McGowan was almost in for a second moments later, only to see the offside flag already raised, while Chris Erskine was denied when in a one-on-one position with Green.

Green had to be alert on a few more occasions as Dundee looked to take the lead, but Zwick himself pulled off a top-class save to deny Mackie for a second time on the hour.

The winning goal came 25 minutes from time when Massimo Luongo headed home from 10 yards out, ensuring that Chris Ramsey's men build some momentum heading into the final stretch of their pre-season programme.
