Half-Time Report: Portsmouth holding Derby County to stalemate

Portsmouth hold Championship side Derby County to a goalless first half in their League Cup clash at Fratton Park.

League Two side Portsmouth have gone into the halfway stage of their League Cup first-round clash with Derby County all square at 0-0.

It was the League Two side who came out of the traps quickest, but they were unable to trouble Lee Grant in the early stages, with Adam McGurk and Kyle Bennett firing off target.

Bennett, who bagged two in the opening game of the season at the weekend, tried again midway through the half, but once again his radar was off.

Derby, who reached the quarter-finals in this competition last season, had to wait until past the half-hour mark before their first real sight of goal, but full debutant Andreas Weimann saw his effort blocked by Adam Webster.

It continued to be the hosts who were asking the most questions, however, and Grant was finally called upon to turn Brandon Haunstrop's powerful effort over the top.

It was the Rams who ended the half on top as Jeff Hendrick fired a bobbling strike wide of the mark, but they could not find a way past their hosts before the interval.
