Toche rescues vital point for Deportivo La Coruna

Deportivo move out of the relegation zone in La Liga after winning a valuable point in the 2-2 draw at Real Sociedad.

Deportivo La Coruna are out of La Liga's relegation zone on goal difference after picking up a valuable point in tonight's 2-2 draw at Real Sociedad.

Goals from Xabi Prieto and a stunner from Chory Castro, either side of Lucas Perez's equaliser, saw Sociedad take a 2-1 lead into the final 15 minutes.

However, Jose Toche was on hand to win a point for the visitors in the final 12 minutes as Deportivo moved up to 15th, level on points with 18th-placed Elche.

It took some 20 minutes for the clash to throw up a clear goalscoring chance, as Fabri pulled off a stunning save to keep out Sergio Canales's effort.

Sociedad continued to threaten and eventually forced a reward, with Prieto casually slotting a penalty beyond Fabri after Jose Rodriguez was penalised for handball.

Deportivo came into the game a little more and missed the chance to equalise when Celso Borges's first-time volley sailed over the bar.

It was a sign of things to come, however, as Lucas, after missing the initial penalty, was on hand to tap home the rebound past Geronimo Rulli to earn a half-time draw.

Victor Sanchez's side retained that momentum after the break and for the second time in the contest, Borges missed a fine chance by sending the ball wide from a good position.

It proved to be a costly miss as Castro re-established the lead in style by sending a stunning left-footed volley past Fabri from an acute angle.

Deportivo enjoyed a brief period of dominance but failed to threaten, and Carlos Vela very nearly put the result beyond doubt by curling just wide of the post from outside the area.

With 12 minutes remaining, Deportivo knew there was enough time to force an equaliser and Toche grabbed one by nodding home Oriol Riera's ball.
