Deportivo La Coruna held by Espanyol

Deportivo La Coruna extend their winless run in La Liga to six matches with a 0-0 draw at home to Espanyol.

Deportivo La Coruna have extended their winless run in La Liga to six matches with a goalless draw at home to Espanyol.

The visitors enjoyed the majority of possession during the early stages, but it was Deportivo who came close to taking the lead on 20 minutes when Felipe Caicedo's strike was ruled out for offside.

With chances hard to come by during a cagey first half, the home side had another good opportunity with 43 minutes played as Celso Borges lashed a shot narrowly over the crossbar.

Deportivo continued to look the more likely to score in the second half, with Oriol Riera heading over from a corner before shooting inches off target a few minutes later.

Despite the home side's dominance, Espanyol almost made the breakthrough on 83 minutes when Javi Lopez's effort crashed off the underside of the crossbar before bouncing down onto the line and away from danger.

That chance seemed to give the visitors encouragement during the final few minutes as they pushed for a winner, but they were denied again late on when Anaitz Arbilla's free kick was clawed away by goalkeeper Fabri.
