Dagenham & Redbridge defeat Stevenage to progress in Johnstone's Paint Trophy

Dagenham & Redbridge defeat Stevenage 2-1 in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy second round.

Dagenham & Redbridge have defeated Stevenage 2-1 to progress into the third round of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy.

Brett Williams and Ben Kennedy both had shots saved by Dagenham goalkeeper Liam O'Brien in the early stages.

Veteran Jamie Cureton then tested Chris Day from long range, but the Stevenage stopper was equal to the shot.

Ashley Chambers had a chance to give the Daggers the lead before half time but Day denied him.

Cureton gave Dagenham the lead in the 53rd minute when he shot into the bottom-right corner after Chambers's assist.

Chambers then switched roles with Cureton two minutes later, picking up his strike partner's pass to rifle the ball into the top-right corner.

Stevenage pulled a goal back with 10 minutes to spare when Ayo Obileye fouled Williams inside the area, and Kennedy scored from the spot.
