Crystal Palace, Barnsley finish goalless

Crystal Palace are held to a draw by Barnsley at home in the Championship.

Crystal Palace and Barnsley were forced to settle for a goalless draw at Selhurst Park in the Championship.

Barnsley had the first chance of the match, as Luke Steele's route one clearance was met with a shot by Jason Scotland, but his strike went wide.

Palace responded in the 15th minute when Andre Moritz swung a free kick into the path of Wilfried Zaha, but the latter's effort was stopped by Steele.

Moritz again caused danger from another free kick shortly after, but his effort forced Steele into a diving save to push the ball away.

The Barnsley goalkeeper was called into action again moments later when he was equal to Peter Ramage's headed effort from a corner.

Glenn Murray then had a good opportunity for the hosts after finding himself free in space down the right, but Steele was quickly out to avert the danger.

The first chance after half time fell to Moritz from a free kick, but his effort lacked the power required as it was saved by Steele.

A minute later Murray charged down Steele's clearance but the ball rebounded off the forward over the bar.

In the 80th minute, substitute Aaron Wilbraham almost made an immediate impact but he fired just wide with his first touch from Stephen Dobbie's through-ball.

Wilbraham went close again just minutes later when he headed fractionally off target at the far post following Jonathan Parr's cross.

However, neither side could find a winner as they were forced to settle for a point apiece.
