Wang Lisi bagged a 91st-minute winner as China PR kept alive their hopes of a quarter-final place at the Women's World Cup by beating Netherlands 1-0 in Edmonton on Thursday.

Tang Jiali menaced early on and twice went close as China - who lost 1-0 to hosts Canada in the curtain-raiser - dominated the opening stages.

It took the best part of 23 minutes for the Dutch - who beat New Zealand 1-0 in the first game - to threaten, and it came when Vivianne Miedema fired over the bar from inside the box.

Perhaps the best chance of the half fell to Ren Guixin, but her close-range effort was kept out by Sari van Veenendaal as China - who had 15 first-half shots - went into the break goalless.

The onslaught continued after the break as Jiali went close again, before Wang Shanshan fired over the bar as their profligacy also continued.

At the other end, the Oranje produced a few warning signs when Miedema and Manon Melis spurned decent chances from good positions.

Just when both sides looked like sharing the spoils, Wang Lisi slotted home from inside the box to snatch all three points in timely fashion.

The Chinese move level with the Dutch and Canada in Group A on three points.
