Late Jason Johnson goal earns Chicago Fire point

The Chicago Fire battle back from a two-goal deficit to earn a point in their MLS clash against the Columbus Crew at the MAPFRE Stadium.

Jason Johnson scored a stoppage-time equaliser to earn the Chicago Fire a point in their MLS clash against the Columbus Crew.

The home side took the lead in the eighth minute when Kei Kamara latched on to a low cross into the box and fired the ball past Jon Busch from close range.

The Fire almost hit back as Kennedy Igboananike teed up David Accam on the edge of the box, who drilled a volley at goal, but Steve Clark was on hand to make the save.

In the second half, the Crew pushed for a second goal and Justin Meram came close as he picked up the ball on the edge of the box and fired his effort over the bar.

Columbus doubled their lead when Kamara latched on to a cross into the box from Kevan George and powered a header past Busch.

However, the Fire got a goal back immediately as Igboananike raided down the flank and his cross was deflected into the path of Accam, who found the net with a low strike.

Chicago pushed for a leveller in the dying minutes and came within inches as Quincy Amarikwa beat his man, but his shot cannoned off the post and bounced clear.

The visitors got their equaliser in stoppage time when Eric Gehrig lifted the ball in from the right and Johnson rose to guide a header into the corner to earn his side a share of the spoils.
