Report: Chelsea monitoring Saido Berahino situation

Chelsea are apparently considering a £5m January bid for West Brom's highly-rated young striker Saido Berahino, whose contract with the Baggies expires in the summer.

Chelsea are understood to be monitoring the contract situation of West Bromwich Albion's new striking star Saido Berahino.

The 20-year-old had scored a hat-trick in the League Cup win over Newport County, and netted on both of his appearances for England's under-21s, before hitting the headlines by bagging the winner in West Brom's 2-1 victory over Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Those exploits have reportedly attracted the attention of Jose Mourinho at Chelsea, who may be looking to inject some youth into an ageing strike force from next season.

According to The Metro the Blues are prepared to offer about £5m for the Burundi-born forward, whose £850-a-week contract at The Hawthorns expires at the end of the season.

The Baggies are currently trying to persuade Berahino to sign an extension, but the player's agent is seemingly keen on him moving away after leaking his client's low salary in a bid to increase interest.
