Kurt Zouma "very surprised" by John Terry's probable Chelsea exit

Kurt Zouma admits that he is "very surprised" by John Terry's claims that Chelsea will not offer the club captain a new contract.

Kurt Zouma has admitted that he is shocked to have heard that John Terry has not been offered a new contract at Chelsea.

The club captain revealed at the weekend that he intends to leave the Blues at the end of the season because the Blues do not plan to extend his deal, which expires in the summer.

Chelsea have tried to play down talk of a departure, though, by releasing a statement claiming that they "will keep the channels of dialogue open" with regards to a potential new deal over the coming months.

When asked about Terry's claims that the club have not offered the defender a new deal, Zouma told the London Evening Standard: "I am very surprised. Now we have to see what John wants to do because I think he can play for another one or two years.

"This feels like when we lost Didier [Drogba] last summer. [Terry] is a huge personality at Chelsea. When you lose these kind of players, you have to replace them but I don't know how John can be replaced. We have to think about it.

"For me he can play many more times. He is still at a top level. He has been playing very well since I arrived at Chelsea. He can continue for sure. He is a legend and a very good leader. I have learnt a lot from him. I don't know what to say, I am very surprised."

Terry has helped Chelsea win 14 major honours during his 18 seasons at the West London outfit.
