Gianfranco Zola backs Antonio Conte for Chelsea success

Former Chelsea star Gianfranco Zola believes that incoming Blues boss Antonio Conte has the key ingredients required to succeed in West London.

Gianfranco Zola has tipped Antonio Conte to make a big impression when taking over at Chelsea due to the "new spirit" that he will bring to the club.

The 46-year-old will officially take charge at Stamford Bridge once Italy's European Championship campaign comes to an end.

Zola, a Chelsea player of seven years before departing West London in 2003, has wished his compatriot the best of luck and is confident that he can bring success back to the club after last season's disappointment.

"I am very happy to have been a part of that Chelsea team," he told Goal.com. "It was a wonderful time with those colleagues and I would not change it for anything in the world. I wish Conte all the success in the world in this new beginning.

"Conte's tactical 'creed' is based on good organisation, a lot of support and strong discipline. Chelsea is a different side to Italy but I think we will see all of those elements in Stamford Bridge next season, with a new spirit."

Conte has guided Italy to the last-16 stage of the Euros, where the Azzurri will face Spain in a repeat of the 2012 final.
