Nigel Pearson: 'Chelsea are worthy champions'

Nigel Pearson hits back at Chelsea's critics and insists that the Premier League champions-elect deserve their imminent title.

Leicester City boss Nigel Pearson has said that he is 'bemused' by criticism directed at Chelsea, insisting that the Premier League champions-elect deserve their success.

The Blues beat Pearson's side 3-1 at the King Power Stadium tonight to move one win away from the title, while leaving Leicester one point above the relegation zone.

Chelsea's style under Jose Mourinho has come under criticism in recent weeks and reached boiling point in Sunday's 0-0 draw away to Arsenal, with the home fans labelling them "boring".

"I've heard criticisms of Chelsea in recent weeks and I find it very bemusing. The best sides are able to win games in different ways and they've illustrated that tonight," he told talkSPORT.

"I think they're a really good side and have some great players. I'm not oblivious to the views that were spouted at the weekend in terms of style of football.

"I'm a big believer in winning games and that's it. Chelsea are worthy champions."

Marc Albrighton had fired the hosts into a deserved 1-0 half-time lead, but the Londoners drew level through Didier Drogba shortly after the break.

Captain John Terry sent the visitors ahead with 11 minutes remaining, before Ramires sealed the win late on to give Chelsea a 13-point lead at the summit.
