Chelsea moved five points clear at the top of the Premier League by easing to a 5-0 victory over Swansea City this afternoon.

Oscar opened the scoring in the first minute with a low strike into the corner, before Diego Costa slotted in a second.

Costa then added a third after a mistake by Federico Fernandez and moments later Oscar curled in a fourth.

Andre Schurrle came off the bench to score a fifth late on, as his near post finish completed the rout.

Was the result fair?

There can be absolutely no doubt that the Blues deserved to pick up the points this afternoon. From the moment that they scored inside the first minute they were completely dominant and put in a stunning team performance. Swansea were blown apart and their poor defending was exposed to devastating effect by their opponents.

Swansea's performance

The Swans would have been expecting a tough 90 minutes, but it was made all the more difficult after conceding so early on. It was a goal that could have been prevented had Gylfi Sigurdsson not given away possession so cheaply to Oscar, who gratefully drilled home. They were put under constant pressure by the Chelsea attack and they were made to pay for each mistake they made. Aside from an early shot from Sigurdsson that hit the bar, they posed no threat going forward and this is the sort of day that could derail their entire season.

Chelsea's performance

Even though Swansea were poor, there can be no mistaking just how brilliant the Blues were at the Liberty. They dominated from start to finish, with Cesc Fabregas running the show from the heart of the midfield. Their attacking quartet of Costa, Oscar, Willian and Eden Hazard also enjoyed wonderful games and they could very well have scored more than the five goals they netted. It was an ominous warning that the Blues are back to their best after a testing spell and only a brave man would bet against them winning the title from this commanding position.

Sports Mole's man of the match

Cesc Fabregas: It is very rare that you see a perfect display on the pitch, but that is exactly what Fabregas delivered today. The Spaniard was at the heart of everything good from his team and he controlled the midfield with some outstanding passes. He has been an inspirational signing for the Blues and there must be plenty of clubs who regret not trying to buy him in the summer.

Biggest gaffe

Who knows what would have happened if Sigurdsson had not given the ball away in the first minute. His poor pass was picked off by Oscar and the Brazilian crashed in the first goal of a long afternoon for the Swans. Fernandez must also take some of the blame, as his blind pass back to his keeper was easily picked off by Costa for the third goal of the match.

Referee's performance

Jonathan Moss was a spectator for most of the game as Chelsea put on a stunning display of attacking football. He was called into action at the start of the second half to diffuse a potentially explosive situation between Ashley Williams and Costa, but did not have to hand out a booking all afternoon.

What next?

Swansea: The Swans are up against Blackburn Rovers in the fourth round of the FA Cup next Saturday.

Chelsea: Mourinho's side will take on Liverpool in the first leg of their League Cup semi-final on Tuesday, before facing Bradford City in the FA Cup next Saturday.
