The team that finishes sixth in the Premier League this season will be handed automatic qualification to next season's Europa League.
Ordinarily, the team that ends the campaign in fifth, as well as the two domestic cup winners are granted a place in Europe's second competition.
However, the Football Association have confirmed that an extra slot has been made available after Chelsea and Liverpool reached the final of the FA Cup.
The Reds have already earned their place in the Europa League by winning the Carling Cup earlier in the season, while Chelsea are unlikely to finish below sixth spot.
