The Spanish striker was forced off with a muscle problem during the Blues' 2-0 defeat at Newcastle United in the Premier League on Saturday.
Torres, 29, is now expected to be sidelined for the Group E clash against the German outfit at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea, who currently top the standings on goal difference, can take a big step towards the last 16 of the competition with a win on Wednesday.
Torres scored twice in the reverse fixture two weeks ago as Jose Mourinho's side earned a comfortable 3-0 victory at the Veltins-Arena.
