Jose Mourinho: 'David Luiz should face suspension for Diego Costa elbow'

Jose Mourinho suggests that former Chelsea defender David Luiz should face a UEFA suspension if he was indeed guilty of elbowing Diego Costa.

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho believes that former player David Luiz should face a ban for elbowing Diego Costa during last night's Champions League last-16 tie.

Paris Saint-Germain came out on top in what was a feisty affair at Stamford Bridge, progressing through to the final eight of the showpiece competition on the back of a 3-3 draw.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic was harshly adjudged to have recklessly challenged Oscar, which led to a straight red card with just 30 minutes played in West London, although Mourinho was more concerned by Luiz's apparent elbow on Costa which seemingly went unseen.

"The David [Luiz] elbow I didn't see, but when UEFA gives him the man of the match I have to believe there is no elbow," he told reporters. "He played very very well and I have to believe no elbow because I can't believe that UEFA gives the man of the match to someone that made an aggression.

"So maybe because they cannot give us the penalty now, they can do what is fair from the disciplinary point of view and suspend David and let Ibra play the quarter-finals, because he deserves it."

Luiz went on to score a late equaliser for PSG four minutes from time at the end of the game to signal a dramatic period of extra time, and the Brazilian was quick to apologise to Blues supporters for his emotional celebration.
