John Collins: 'Celtic accept Nadir Ciftci biting ban'

Celtic assistant coach John Collins insists that the club accepts Nadir Ciftci's eight-match suspension for biting an opponent.

Celtic assistant coach John Collins has admitted that the club will "just have to move on" from Nadir Ciftci's eight-game ban for biting an opponent.

The summer signing was hit with the suspension on Monday after being found guilty of biting Jim McAlister during a Dundee derby on the final day of last season.

Two matches of Ciftci's ban are suspended, while the punishment only relates to domestic games - something which Collins believes can benefit the Scottish champions.

"Obviously he won't be available for early league games but he will be fresh for European games so for every negative there is a positive," the former midfielder is quoted as saying by Sky Sports News.

"It is disappointing for Nadir and ourselves but the decision is made and we just have to move on. We will wait on him coming back.

"We had to wait on the result, the decision was made and we just have to move on and we all learn from our mistakes and hopefully it won't happen again. We want our players to be competitive but within the rules of the game."

Celtic are back in Champions League qualifying action on Wednesday when they travel to Iceland to face Stjarnan for the second leg of their second-round tie. The Scottish champions have a 2-0 lead from the first leg.
