Brendan Rodgers: 'Celtic Champions League displays defied critics'

Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers believes that the Hoops have defied critics with their performances in the Champions League this season.

Brendan Rodgers has claimed that Celtic have defied critics with their Champions League performances this season.

The Hoops began with a 7-0 thrashing at Barcelona, but they followed that result with a 3-3 draw at Celtic Park against Manchester City.

Celtic then lost 2-0 against Borussia Monchengladbach but the reverse fixture saw them emerge with a 1-1 draw with the German team.

"I think everyone's expectation coming into it was that we wouldn't get a point. Everyone noted the opponents we were playing, that we would be lucky to get even a point," Rodgers told Sky Sports News.

"Barcelona away, of course we deserved nothing. Manchester City was an outstanding team performance, we got a point from that and great encouragement from the performance.

"We were second best on the night at home against Monchengladbach, we didn't quite get to our level. But our last game away we showed a good level of performance and picked up a deserved point."

Celtic host Barcelona on November 23 before travelling to Man City in December.
