Cardiff City's Peter Whittingham targets playoff berth

Cardiff City midfielder Peter Whittingham believes that the team are not involved in a Championship relegation battle, despite losing their last three games.

Cardiff City midfielder Peter Whittingham is confident that the team are not involved in a Championship relegation battle, despite their recent slump in form.

The Bluebirds are 13th in the table, seven points above the bottom three and 13 adrift of the playoff places, after losing their last three games.

However, Whittingham believes that Cardiff are capable of challenging for promotion this term under manager Russell Slade.

"The lads are confident, we want to get to the playoffs," Whittingham told BBC Sport. "We are looking up rather than down.

"In this division if you go and win a couple of games on the bounce it sends you right up there.

"All we need to do is put a little run together. We've got the players here to do it and hopefully we can do that."

Cardiff travel to Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday.
