Andreas Cornelius nearing Cardiff City return

Cardiff City striker Andreas Cornelius is in line to make his debut for the Welsh club against Manchester City this weekend.

Cardiff City boss Malky Mackay has revealed that Andreas Cornelius could be in line to face Manchester City this weekend.

The 20-year-old, who joined the Welsh club from FC Copenhagen this summer, picked up an injury in training last week.

"Andreas joined in with training last Friday but wasn't match fit. He took an ankle knock in training two weeks ago and was nearly ready," Mackay told reporters at a press conference.

"If he damaged the ankle again he could have been out for four weeks. We're looking at the long-term picture and that's why we've waited another week.

"We are making sure he's okay. He'll be back in training this week and should be in the squad to face Manchester City."

Cardiff opened their league season with a 2-0 defeat to West Ham United last weekend.
