Heidar Helguson gives Cardiff City the lead going into half-time against Hull City in the Championship.

Cardiff City have temporarily moved up to second in the Championship after Heidar Helguson's early header gave the hosts a 1-0 lead going into the break against Hull City.

The Bluebirds got off to the perfect start after Helguson bravely headed the hosts in front from Craig Noone's cross inside three minutes.

Cardiff continued to dictate the play when Mark Hudson headed off-target from Peter Whittingham's corner.

Malky Mackay was forced into an early change as the injured Kevin McNaughton was replaced by Filip Kiss after 19 minutes.

Whittingham continued to cause trouble from set pieces but his delivery failed to produce a goal.

Sone Aluko came close for the away side but neither of his efforts could find the target.
