Fleetwood Town have won promotion to League One after they recorded a 1-0 win over Burton Albion in the League Two playoff final.

A tense affair provided little in the way of clear-cut chances, but with 15 minutes remaining, Burton goalkeeper Dean Lyness misjudged a 50-yard free kick from Antoni Sarcevic which resulted in the ball flying over his head and into the corner.

Sarcevic's goal means that Fleetwood will be competing at the third tier of English football for the first time in their history.

2.01pmHello, and welcome to Sports Mole's live coverage of the League Two playoff final between Burton Albion and Fleetwood Town.

2.04pmOn Saturday, we witnessed Bobby Zamora scored a last-minute winner to earn promotion for Queens Park Rangers. Yesterday, we saw Rotherham United come back from 2-0 behind to defeat Leyton Orient on penalties. Burton and Fleetwood are going to have to go some to better the action over the past two days, but this is the playoffs - anything can happen!

2.07pmPlayoff finals are always special, but for these two teams, this match is arguably the biggest match in their history. Neither club have experienced the third tier of English football but by the time that this afternoon is out, one side will have earned adulation never seen before at their club.

2.09pmThe team news is in from Wembley. Full details to follow shortly.

2.11pmBURTON ALBION XI: Lyness, Edwards, Hussey, Holness, Cansdell-Sherriff, MacDonald, McFadzean, Bell, Weir, McGurk, Kee

2.13pmBURTON ALBION SUBSTITUTES: Hall, Gray, Diamond, Palmer, Alexander, Knowles, Ismail

2.16pmThe big news coming out of the Burton camp is that striker Billy Kee returns to the starting lineup after only being fit enough for a place on the bench in the second leg of the semi-final. However, the story is further complicated by Kee's partner going into labour earlier today, but the 23-year-old takes his place in the team. In defence, Shane Cansdell-Sherriff starts despite suffering with an Achilles problem throughout the week.

2.18pmFLEETWOOD TOWN XI: Maxwell, McLaughlin, Roberts, Pond, Taylor, Goodall, Blair, Morris, Sarcevic, Ball, Hume

2.19pmFLEETWOOD TOWN SUBSTITUTES: Lucas, Murdoch, Evans, Schumacher, Parkin, Matt, Jordan

2.22pmGraham Alexander's main selection dilemma was who to select from Alan Goodall and Steven Schumacher, but the Fleetwood boss has gone for Goodall.

2.27pmThe top-seven positions in League One have been fiercely contested over the course of the campaign, but neither Fleetwood or Burton had enough in reserve to secure automatic promotion. Instead, Fleetwood were forced to settle for fourth place, five points off third, while Burton just managed to hold off the challenge of York City to end the season in sixth.

2.32pmPREVIOUS FIXTURES! The first of the two regular league matches between these two teams came all the way back on August 17. Burton, who were visiting Fleetwood's Highbury Stadium, stormed into a 3-0 lead after 34 minutes, and although the home side pulled two goals back after the break, they couldn't stop Albion winning 3-2.

In the reverse fixture at the Pirelli Stadium, Fleetwood earned revenge after they recorded a 4-2 triumph in January. The first four goals were shared before the visitors netted twice during the final 12 minutes.

2.34pm11 goals over two matches - if those statistics are anything to go by, we could be in for a thriller this afternoon!

2.37pmWe are less than 25 minutes to kickoff at Wembley, and the Fleetwood squad are going through their final warmup routine.

2.40pmFor those of you that believe in omens, Queens Park Rangers and Rotherham United have both shared the same changing room over the past 48 hours. Purely a coincidence or is that the lucky changing room? Fleetwood will be hoping it is the latter!

2.44pmBurton chief Gary Rowett has revealed that Billy Kee was up with his wife, who is in labour, until 6am this morning. If that's the case, it's an incredibly brave call to select him in the starting lineup. Still, it would be difficult to leave your top scorer on the bench for a game such as this one.

2.48pmPREDICTION! Both teams proved in the semi-finals that they could dig deep to get over the line and if that's the case today, it could be a tight affair. Burton looked sharper in front of goal during the last four, but keeping two successive clean sheets in the playoffs is impressive, and Fleetwood could make it hard for Burton to break them down this afternoon. Fleetwood to sneak a 1-0 win.

2.52pmThe two teams are beginning to emerge from their respective changing rooms. There is a feeling of excitement and anticipation, but at the same time, there are a few tense-looking faces!

2.56pmHere comes the two teams to a terrific reception from their supporters. There are only around 15,000 expected inside Wembley this afternoon, but they are all making the most of the occasion.

1 minBurton Albion get us underway at Wembley.

1 minAlbion win an early free kick on the left-hand side, but despite Chris Hussey's delivery finding Billy Kee, his header is weak and never threatening the goal.

2 minSAVES! Dean Lyness makes two superb stops to deny David Ball! Firstly, the former Manchester City trainee turned inside the penalty area before arrowing a shot towards the top corner that Lyness clawed out. From the resulting corner, Ball rose above the defenders to head the ball on target but Lyness got himself in the way and the ball was cleared.

5 minThis has been a decent start from both teams. Fleetwood have created the chances, but Burton have responded with a couple of attacks down either flank.

8 minMatty Blair dispossesses a Burton defender on the halfway line, before driving towards goal. However, his run is brought to a halt and Fleetwood can do nothing with the resulting corner.

10 minBurton's Alex MacDonald responds in kind and drives towards the Fleetwood backline, but he too sees his cross diverted behind for a corner. It's a testing delivery into the box but goalkeeper Chris Maxwell gets enough on the ball to avert the danger.

11 minBilly Kee wins a free kick 30 yards from the Fleetwood goal, which he and MacDonald take an immediate interest in. The shot was well struck by MacDonald but he couldn't direct the ball past a Fleetwood defender on the edge of the penalty area.

14 minCHANCE! Fleetwood win a corner on the right-hand side which is swung in by Blackburn Rovers loanee Josh Morris. The ball finds the head of Fleetwood stalwart Nathan Pond, but he can't find the target from eight yards.

16 minFleetwood have two, seemingly strong, penalty appeals turned down in the space of a few seconds. The first challenge on Matty Blair was fair, but there may have been a bit more contact on David Ball. Burton may have got away with one there.

19 minAdam McGurk has barely featured for Burton, but after he is released down the right, he cuts inside onto his left foot before driving the ball a couple of yards wide of the far post.

22 minBurton break quickly from the halfway line, but after the ball is played to McGurk, he makes the wrong choice and scuffs a 25-yard shot that trickles wide of the post.

24 minThat's better from McGurk. He wins the ball before playing it into Billy Kee on the edge of the penalty area. The striker proceeds to lay the ball off to the advancing Lee Bell, who warms the hands of Chris Maxwell with a drive from 25 yards.

27 minCharlie Taylor wants a free kick after being tugged back by Alex MacDonald, but he is forced to settle for a corner. Antoni Sarcevic's corner is a good one, but he is furious after none of his teammates make an effort to connect with his cross.

29 minCHANCE! Conor McLaughlin gets himself into the penalty area before setting up David Ball. The striker switched the ball onto his left foot but he could only slice his effort on goal.

33 minJosh Morris does well to find David Ball inside the penalty area, but the striker's goal-bound effort is well blocked by the defender. There was a hint of a handball, but it didn't result in an appeal.

36 minBurton are enduring a bit of a quiet spell on the attacking front. It might be a case of trying to settle for half time as Fleetwood huff and puff around their penalty area without much success.

39 minThere is a bit of a lull in the atmosphere inside Wembley too. I think everyone is ready for the break, but we've still got five minutes of the half to go.

41 minBurton win a free kick on the left touchline. Alex MacDonald trots over from the opposite flank to take the set piece, but he may as well stayed where he was - it was a shocking attempt at a cross.

43 minCharlie Taylor shows plenty of ambition to get down the left, but his cross is deflected out for a corner. Antoni Sarcevic plays his part in taking a short corner, and after drifting inside, he wins a free kick from 25 yards out, right on the edge of the D.

44 minWhat on earth are Fleetwood doing? Two players take a touch before teeing up a third, and it allows Burton to break from the wall to block the shot.

45 minThere will be one minute of added-on time.

45+1 minHALF TIME: Burton Albion 0-0 Fleetwood Town

3.49pmThe referee blows the half-time whistle at Wembley, and we go into half time with no goals being scored in the opening 45 minutes. The opening exchanges offered plenty of hope for an exciting contest, but clear-cut opportunities have been few and far between and things can only get better in the second half.

3.53pmThere may have been a lack of chances on target, but there have been a total of 21 shots throughout that opening half! Fleetwood dominate the possession and corner count, having 60% of the ball while winning seven corners over the first 45 minutes. Burton have been second best, but they are very much in this final.

4.00pmI would imagine that Graham Alexander would have been satisfied with the efforts of his Fleetwood team, but his opposite number Gary Rowett will be calling for extra intensity from his side. They have offered plenty of pace in attack on occasions, but at the end of that half, they showed little intent to break the deadlock before half time.

4.03pmThe two teams are back out on the pitch. Billy Kee looks like he is trying to loosen himself up - I would have thought he's struggling to stay awake more than anything!

46 minFleetwood get the back started in the second.

46 minCHANCE! Iain Hume wins a header in the penalty area, which sees the ball go into the path of David Ball, but his attempted lob from 12 yards is easily claimed by Dean Lyness. The striker should have done better there.

50 minBurton's Chris Hussey finds himself in the centre of the park, but after being crowded out, he finds Callum McFadzean running down the left. However, the Sheffield United loanee can't adjust his feet to the run of the ball and it rolls out for a goal kick.

53 minBilly Kee twists and turns inside the penalty area before passing the ball to Lee Bell. However, the midfielder can't get any power in his left-footed strike from 18 yards and it's easily claimed by Chris Maxwell.

57 minThis is a bit better from Burton. They began the half at the same pace in which they ended the first, but slowly but surely, they are finding more joy in the final third. After Chris Hussey blazed over from 20 yards, Billy Kee got in behind the Fleetwood defence but he mis-judged the flight of the ball and failed to get his shot away.

59 minAntoni Sarcevic has been quiet for much of this match, but he shows a bit of his talent by drifting inside onto his right foot, but his shot from 20 yards is a few yards wide of the post.

62 minCallum McFadzean drives towards the byline for Burton and earns his side a corner. That run brings a positive response from his team's supporters behind the goal, but the corner comes to nothing as Robbie Weir fires the ball high over the crossbar from 20 yards.

65 minSUBSTITUTION! This is an interesting one. Zander Diamond, who has already agreed a summer move to Northampton Town, comes on for Marcus Holness, who has picked up a knock. This is Diamond's first appearance since January.

69 minNot for the first time, there is a lull in the action. Are both teams gearing themselves up for a big effort in the final 20 minutes? I hope so, because this match has got 0-0 and extra time written all over it at the moment.

71 minAlex MacDonald tries his luck from 30 yards, but despite his strike taking a wicked deflection, the ball lands on top of the net. From the resulting Burton corner, what a chance! Shane Cansdell-Sherriff broke clear from his marker to meet the ball at the near post but he failed to get enough on the ball to divert it into the net from six yards.

73 minSUBSTITUTION! Burton are forced into a second alteration. Alex MacDonald is suffering from a hamstring problem, which sees Zeli Ismail, on loan from Wolverhampton Wanderers, come on as his replacement.

74 minSUBSTITUTION! Straight afterwards, Fleetwood boss Graham Alexander throws on Jon Parkin for Matty Blair.

75 minBOOKING! How cynical is that! Phil Edwards goes into the book for bringing down Josh Morris.

75 minGOAL! Burton Albion 0-1 Fleetwood Town (Sarcevic)

75 minFleetwood take the lead after a huge error from Dean Lyness! Antoni Sarcevic swung in a free kick from around 45 yards out, and as the ball entered the penalty area, it was mis-judged by Lyness and despite his best efforts, the ball flew over his head and into the far corner.

78 minSUBSTITUTION! Gary Rowett has another injury to deal with as Lee Bell is required to leave the action. Matty Palmer is on in his place.

81 minBurton have nine minutes plus added-on time to save this game but since the goal, the ball has barely seen the final third. They need to find some inspiration from somewhere or they will be remaining in League Two.

85 minDavid Ball gets in behind the Burton defence, but after reaching the byline, his ball towards the near post just misses Iain Hume, who threws himself at the ball ahead of Dean Lyness.

88 minA precise clearance from Chris Maxwell finds Jon Parkin in an advanced area, and the veteran does well to waste some time in the corner. The ball into the box is wasted, but a few more seconds ticked by in the process.

90 minBilly Kee turns sharply on the edge of the area but Nathan Pond produces an incredibly brave block to stop his shot finding the bottom corner. There will be four minutes of added-on time.

90+2 minFleetwood are putting so much into this! They are out on their feet in defence, but so far, they are holding firm. Callum McFadzean goes for glory from 25 yards but his effort flies past the post.

90+4 minNathan Pond makes another outstanding tackle to deny Burton and he should have got a goal kick for his team, but Burton get a corner. However, two balls into the box are headed clear and Fleetwood have a free kick. They are almost there.

90+5 minFULL TIME: Burton Albion 0-1 Fleetwood Town

4.55pmFleetwood Town have been promoted to League One! Their remarkable rise up the league ladder continues! They were playing North West Counties league football under 10 years ago!

4.57pmWhile Fleetwood celebrate, there is dejection on the faces of the Burton players, including Dean Lyness. The goalkeeper performed solidly throughout, but his error has cost his side the chance of at least taking this match to extra time. It's a tough one to take for the 22-year-old.

4.59pmFleetwood's victory sees them join Chesterfield, Scunthorpe United and Rochdale in the third tier of English football next season. With the momentum that they now have, who would back against them achieving back-to-back promotions?

5.01pmThat will be all from Sports Mole's coverage of this game. Thank you for joining us this afternoon and while this match brings an end to the domestic season in England, fear not - there is some tournament called the World Cup beginning in 17 days time. I heard it might be worth a watch? Goodbye for now.
