Late Jamie Maclaren goal secures Brisbane Roar win over Wellington Phoenix

Brisbane Roar come from behind to defeat the Wellington Phoenix 2-1 in their A-League clash thanks to goals from Steven Lustica and Jamie Maclaren.

Jamie Maclaren scored an 86th-minute winner to fire the Brisbane Roar to a 2-1 victory over the Wellington Phoenix in their A-League clash on Saturday.

Thomas Brioch thought that he had put the home side ahead in the 16th minute when he converted Henrique's cross at the back post, but the goal was ruled out for offside against the Brazilian.

The Phoenix took the lead on the stroke of half time through an individual effort from Roy Krishna, as the striker raided into the box and weaved his way past Jack Hingert before firing a low strike into the net.

Maclaren could have brought the Roar level early after the break when he received the ball inside the penalty area, but he sent his shot over the bar.

Wellington came close to doubling their advantage as Krishna found space to race into the final third before launching an effort towards the bottom corner, but Jamie Young made a fine stop to deny the forward.

The Roar notched their equaliser following good work down the flank from Jean Carlos Solorzano as the winger beat his man and cut the ball back to Steven Lustica to fire home from close range.

Glen Moss made an impressive save to deny Maclaren from putting the hosts ahead in the 76th minute, but he was powerless to stop the striker again as the Roar man raced forward and rounded the keeper before slotting into an empty net to snatch the three points.

The result lifts the Roar into second place in the table, while the Phoenix remain sixth.
