The home side made a strong start to the match, with Jose Ulloa and Moreno David Lopez both taking shots early in the game before Inigo Calderon saw his effort go wide.

Kazenga LuaLua went for goal from distance just before the half-hour mark, but his 35-yard strike was knocked over by Ben Hamer.

Yann Kermorgant almost broke the deadlock in the 32nd minute as he attempted to head in from a Johnnie Jackson free kick, but the ball crept wide.

It was a quiet 45 minutes for Tomasz Kuszczak in the Brighton goal, as Charlton rarely threatened their opponents.
