Top five goal celebrations

Following the positive reaction to Samuel Eto'o's actions yesterday evening, Sports Mole picks out five other memorable goal celebrations.

Yesterday evening, Chelsea striker Samuel Eto'o made light of recent comments attributed to his manager Jose Mourinho regarding his age.

The forward, who will turn 33 tomorrow, imitated his need for a walking stick after he had broken the deadlock against Tottenham Hotspur at Stamford Bridge.

It was a routine that was received well on social networking sites, while even Mourinho saw the funny side of the Cameroon international's actions.

Where does it rank, though, among these five other celebrations that have been picked out by Sports Mole?

1. Brazil 1994
Many players have since replicated it, but it was Brazilian international Bebeto that first performed the cradle celebration after he had scored during the quarter-finals of the 1994 World Cup against the Netherlands.

2. Paul Gascoigne
Prior to Euro 96, the England squad were heavily criticised in the media for their antics during a team bonding trip to Hong Kong. Many of the headlines belonged to Teddy Sheringham, who was captured having alcohol poured into his mouth while in a reclining chair. Never one to shy away, Gascoigne mimicked the 'dentist's chair' following his memorable goal against Scotland at Wembley.

3. Stjarnan FC
Little-known Icelandic club Stjarnan recently made a name for themselves with a catalogue of celebrations, which included the toilet, the fighter and a fisherman.

4. Jimmy Bullard
With Hull City 4-0 down at the break away at Manchester City in December 2008, manager Phil Brown gave his team talk on the pitch in front of the away supporters, rather than returning to the dressing room. At the same venue during the next season, Hull's Jimmy Bullard scored from the penalty spot to draw his team level and the midfielder, taking on the role of his boss, recreated the scene.

5. Temuri Ketsbaia
There was no jubilation from Newcastle United's Georgian midfielder after he had come off the bench to score a late winner against Bolton Wanderers in 1998. Rather than celebrate his intervention, an angry Ketsbaia threw off his shirt, failed to remove his boots and then proceeded to kick the advertising hoardings on several occasions. He later revealed that he was angered by the fact that he had been omitted from the starting lineup.
