Brazilian legend Pele is said to be in a "stable" condition after undergoing surgery on a prostate condition.
It is the second time in six months that the 74-year-old has been admitted to hospital, having previously been treated for a urinary infection at the end of last year.
A medical statement on the Globoesporte website read: "Edson Arantes do Nascimento (Pele) is in hospital after he underwent a surgical procedure of transurethral resection of the prostate.
"His condition is stable and he is in a room at the hospital."
Pele, a three-time World Cup winner, will continue to be monitored at the Albert Einstein Hospital in Sao Paulo, although it is not known when he will be released.
