Callum Wilson made his first appearance in seven weeks after recovering from a knee injury and scored against Huddersfield.

Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe hailed Callum Wilson following the striker's return to action in Saturday's 2-0 win at Huddersfield.

Wilson opened the scoring in the first half and laid on the game-clinching goal for Ryan Fraser in the second as Bournemouth snapped a nine-game Premier League losing run on the road.

The Cherries striker made his first appearance in seven weeks after recovering from a knee injury and made a timely and crucial contribution in front of watching England boss Gareth Southgate.

"He is an outstanding player with unique attributes for us," said Howe, whose side secured their first away win since the end of October.

"He has that ability to run in behind and he's got the work ethic off the ball and, of course, he knows where the goal is.

"What was also hugely impressive was his assist for Ryan at a key moment in the game with the game still in the balance.

"He managed to find Ryan, who was almost behind him with a great reverse pass and it really sealed the win for us."

Southgate was on a watching brief before naming his squad on Wednesday for next month's Euro 2020 qualifiers.

"Obviously, my priority is to make sure Callum is fit and fine after today's game," Howe added.

"He will of course be looking at the England situation I'm sure. I was pleased to see him play well for us and scoring."

Bournemouth's previous away league win was at Fulham and Howe was delighted for the club's travelling fans.

"They've made a long journey up and no doubt left at a very early time and have been rewarded with a really good performance from us," he added.

"It was very clinical. We looked good in attack and solid in defence, so it has been a good day."

Huddersfield boss Jan Siewert has lost six of his seven games in charge, with just one win since replacing David Wagner in January.

The Terriers are now 16 points from safety with eight games remaining and Siewert was furious with his side's display.

"The first half was not acceptable for me and that is why I talked to them at half-time," he said.

"I feel sorry for each supporter who came today and saw the first half. It was not my football at all and not the attitude I wanted from us, especially in the last third."

The German said he knew he had taken on a tough challenge, but could not hide his disappointment at this latest defeat.

"I knew that this job was very difficult," he added. "Each time in the games, the players have responded and tried to play the football.

"But today, I did not see it in the summary of this game. I am 36 years old and I knew this would be difficult. But I am brave and I am a fighter and I will still fight with the right attitude."
