Birmingham City seize comeback win against Blackpool

Birmingham City come from behind to defeat Blackpool 2-1 in today's Championship clash at Bloomfield Road.

Birmingham City have come from behind to defeat Blackpool 2-1 in today's Championship clash at Bloomfield Road.

The match saw action early on. Lee Novak whipped a ball across the face of goal for the away side, and Federico Macheda was close to connecting from six yards.

Five minutes later, Blackpool's Andy Keogh was able to get the better of Paul Robinson before attempting to pick out Stephen Dobbie, but Will Packwood made a last-ditch tackle to prevent the 31-year-old from scoring a tap-in.

The home side continued to threaten, as Faris Haroun and Kirk Broadfoot weighed in with dangerous chances. They eventually broke the deadlock midway through the first half when a botched corner clearance ended up finding Keogh, who proceeded to swivel and volley into the net from close range.

The visitors came out with intent in the second half, Chris Burke cutting in from the left-hand side just after the restart and attempting to pick his spot, but Matt Gilks was able to make good save down low.

Eventually, Birmingham got the equalising goal just after the hour mark, as a knockdown from Nikola Zigic fell to Novak, who then fired an emphatic half-volley from 20 yards.

There was a penalty shout just a few minutes later for the Blues when Burke was felled in the Seasiders box. The referee, however, dismissed the calls.

In the 75th minute, Jack Robinson was sent off for Blackpool following a professional foul on Jordon Ibe.

Towards the end of the game, the Blues, who were behind at half time, ended up completing the comeback by taking the lead, courtesy of a close-range header goal by Novak.

The away side came close to making it three near the end, but Gilks pulled off an acrobatic save to tip away Macheda's effort from 18 yards to ensure that the game finished 2-1.
