Preview: Birmingham City vs. Yeovil Town

Sports Mole previews Saturday's Championship clash between Birmingham and struggling Yeovil at St Andrew's.

Struggling Yeovil Town will look to put their poor form behind them and pull off a shock victory against Birmingham City at St Andrew's on Saturday.

Yeovil have lost their last four league matches and are without a win in six, last picking up maximum points at the start of December.

That has left the Glovers joint bottom of the Championship table and in danger of being cut adrift from those above them.

They are now five points from safety and could find themselves facing an even bigger gap should results go against them this weekend.

The visitors have actually been better on their travels than they have been at home this season, but they have still picked up just two wins and nine points overall from their 12 away games.

Yeovil's main problem has been scoring goals, managing just 19 in their 24 outings - the joint lowest in the division - and Johnson has already outlined his intention to strengthen in the transfer market.

There have been no new additions so far, but Johnson does have a fully fit squad to choose from for this weekend's match.

He may need it as well, as Birmingham have been in fine form recently, going 10 matches unbeaten before seeing that run come to an end at the hands of Brighton & Hove Albion last Saturday.

The Blues moved steadily up the table throughout that unbeaten streak and are now sitting more comfortably, eight points clear of the bottom three.

Lee Clark's side returned to winning ways at the first time of asking with a 3-0 win over Bristol Rovers in the FA Cup on Tuesday, and he will be hoping for a similar response in the league.

However, his side have not exactly made a fortress out of St Andrew's recently, drawing their last five home games and losing the two before that to take their winless streak in front of their own fans to seven matches.

They have won just twice at home all season, and Barnsley and Yeovil - the league's bottom two sides - are the only teams to have amassed fewer points at their own ground.

Clark's worries extend to his squad as he faces a shortage of defenders, with Kyle Bartley and Jonathan Spector both doubtful and Dan Burn back at Fulham following his loan spell.
