Franck Ribery extends Bayern Munich contract until 2018

Bayern Munich confirm that French winger Franck Ribery has signed a one-year contract extension at the Allianz Arena.

Bayern Munich winger Franck Ribery has signed a one-year contract extension at the Allianz Arena to take him into his 11th season at the club.

The 33-year-old joined Bayern from Marseille in 2007 and has played 333 games for the Bundesliga giants, scoring 108 goals and setting up another 164.

Ribery's original contract was due to expire at the end of this season, but the club released a statement confirming that the Frenchman had opted to prolong his stay in Bavaria.

"Six German championship titles, five cup triumphs, the Champions League, the FIFA Club World Cup, the UEFA Supercup - Bayern's biggest triumphs in the last few years are closely linked with Franck Ribery," said club chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge.

"He's both a key player and a crowd-pleaser, so we're happy we've extended the contract with Franck by another year."

Ribery, meanwhile, said: "I am very happy to be able to play for Bayern another year. This great club and city became my home, sportive and private.

"I am looking forward to many great moments together with the Bayern fans and would like to add my share, so that we can be successful in the upcoming one and a half years as well."

Despite a number of recent injury worries, Ribery has played 11 games in all competitions this season, scoring two goals and registering eight assists.
