Bayern Munich move 11 points clear at Bundesliga summit

Bayern Munich beat Hertha Berlin 2-0 to move 11 points clear at the top of the Bundesliga.

Bayern Munich have moved 11 points clear at the top of the Bundesliga by claiming a comfortable 2-0 victory over Hertha Berlin.

Robert Lewandowski twice threatened to break the deadlock early on as he rattled the post with a low strike, before seeing his header tipped wide by Rune Jarstein a few moments later.

Bayern were typically dominant in possession as they dictated the tempo before finally finding a breakthrough with 11 minutes remaining in the first half.

Thomas Muller was in the right place at the right time for his 13th Bundesliga goal of the campaign as he headed home from close range after Mehdi Benatia had flicked on an Arturo Vidal corner.

Hertha's task was made even more difficult before the interval as Javi Martinez produced a brilliant volleyed pass on the edge of the box to find Kingsley Coman, who kept his composure to slot past Jarstein.

The visitors were unable to change the pattern of the game early in the second half, and the defenders were left breathing a sigh of relief when an unmarked Lewandowski miscued a shot after being allowed to collect a cross.

Pep Guardiola's side simply settled for controlling the match as they entered the closing stages of the contest, with Hertha struggling to put the home defence under any kind of pressure.

Genki Haraguchi threatened to set up a dramatic finish when he targeted the bottom corner with a curling effort late on, but Manuel Neuer made a fine save as Bayern eased to all three points.
