Karl-Heinz Rummenigge: 'Bayern Munich will not rush Pep Guardiola talks'

Bayern Munich CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge insists that the club do not need to rush into contract talks with Pep Guardiola.

Bayern Munich CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has insisted that the club do not need to hurry into talks with head coach Pep Guardiola over a new deal.

After comfortably securing their progress in the Champions League and going unbeaten in the first 17 Bundesliga games of the season, there had been suggestions that Guardiola was in line for a new contract.

However, Rummenigge claims that there are no concerns over the Spaniard's future, despite indicating that the Bavarians would like to extend his stay at the Allianz Arena.

"We expected there to be some hiccups before Christmas but the leadership under Pep Guardiola has been brilliant," Rummenigge told Bild. "We will do everything we can to keep him here.

"He has massive value for us. But his current contract runs for over one and a half years. These are light-years for him. He is not a person who needs a long-term guarantee, or needs to improve his contract.

"It's not the right moment yet to speak about extending it. When this is the case, we will see what happens."

Bayern finished off 2014 by beating Mainz 05 2-1 on Friday evening, courtesy of a late Arjen Robben strike.
