Mohamed Salah then had a good chance to equalise for the home side, but he struck his effort straight at Ciprian Tatarusanu.

The visitors nearly doubled their lead at the end of the first half, with both Lukasz Szukala and Andras Gardos denied in quick succession by Sommer.

On the hour mark, Basel came close to scoring through Ivan Ivanov, but he could only direct his header from Matias Delgado's cross over the bar.

In the final minute of the game, the home side equalised. Valentin Stocker picked out Giovanni Sio, who finished from close range to earn his side a point.
