Victor Valdes suffers possible season-ending injury

Victor Valdes sustains a knee injury in Barcelona's clash with Celta Vigo which is likely to rule him out of the remainder of the season and the World Cup.

Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdes appears to have played his last game for the club after tearing his anterior knee ligament.

The 32-year-old, who has already announced that he will leave the Catalan giants at the end of the season, picked up the injury in his side's 3-0 victory over Celta Vigo earlier tonight.

The length of time the Spaniard will spend on the sidelines is not yet known, though he is expected to miss the remainder of the season as well as this summer's World Cup in Brazil.

Valdes sustained the injury having stretched for a loose ball with 20 minutes played in the Camp Nou, being replaced by Jose Pinto.

In a statement released after the match, Barcelona officials confirmed: "Valdes has torn the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee and will require surgery."

Valdes began his career at the La Liga club in 1992, coming through the side's famed youth academy and making his senior debut 10 years later, going on to make close to 400 appearances for the first team.
