Mile Jedinak plays down Arturo Vidal absence

Australia captain Mile Jedinak plays down the significance of Arturo Vidal's absence for the Socceroos' clash with Chile in the World Cup.

Australia captain Mile Jedinak has played down the significance of Arturo Vidal's potential absence when they meet Chile in the World Cup.

The Juventus star is currently struggling with a knee problem and may be forced to miss his side's opener against the Socceroos on Friday.

However, the Crystal Palace midfielder thinks that their opponents are well equipped to make light of the injury.

The Guardian quotes him as saying: "You go through their squad, he's one player – he's important yes but they have many players at a good level, especially in his position, they're very strong.

"We have to prepare for whether he's playing or not, we have to prepare for both scenarios. We know what they are like going forward, an aggressive press going forward, but we have to work on things like that. It's up to us to go out there and try and stop that.

"Everyone is preparing in different ways against different opposition. In the end it's still up to us to execute our plan on the day. If we see something isn't working for them maybe we can exploit that, but it's still up to us to execute it, and that's why we have been putting it in on the training grounds."

Australia will also meet the Netherlands on June 18, before a final group game against world and European champions Spain on June 23.
