Liverpool reportedly make an official offer for Atletico Madrid forward Diego Costa, triggering the player's release clause.

Liverpool have reportedly made an official offer for Atletico Madrid forward Diego Costa.

The 24-year-old, who has been capped twice by Brazil at international level, scored 10 goals in 31 La Liga outings last season.

His form has seen him attract attention from a host of top European clubs, but Brendan Rodgers's Reds now appear to be in pole position to secure his signature.

According to The Guardian, the Anfield outfit have bid £21.8m, which is believed to be equal to the player's release clause.

Liverpool boasted the fourth best attack in the Premier League last season.

However, 22 of their 71 goals were scored by Luis Suarez, who is seeking a move away from the club this summer.
