Atletico Madrid unaware of FIFA probe

Atletico Madrid deny any wrongdoing regarding the signing of under-age players, which could allegedly see them handed a transfer ban by FIFA.

Atletico Madrid have claimed that they are unaware of any potential transfer ban which may be inflicted on them by FIFA.

News emerged on Tuesday evening suggesting that both Atletico and city rivals Real Madrid could be prohibited from buying players for two transfer windows, as a result of allegedly breaching rules with regards to the signing of under-age players.

However, the Spanish champions insist that they have done no wrong, and will continue to work in sync with football's world governing body in order to rectify the issue.

"We have not received any notification by FIFA or by the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) regarding the reports that are circulating in the Spanish media," Atletico press officer Juan Jose Anaut told Press Association Sport.

"We want to state that we have cooperated with FIFA at all times. We believe we have followed the correct steps when it comes to licencing under age players as we have followed the guidelines of the RFEF and the Madrid Football Federation just as FIFA stipulates in order for licences to be approved."

Barcelona were hit with an identical penalty last year, which has seen them banned from signing any player until January 2016.
