Atletico Madrid and Real Betis both fail to make the breakthrough in the opening half of this evening's La Liga meeting at the Vicente Calderon.

Atletico Madrid and Real Betis have finished the first half goalless in this evening's La Liga meeting at the Vicente Calderon.

Victory for Madrid would see them close the gap on leaders Barcelona to nine points.

The home side almost took the lead in the fourth minute, but Arda Turan's effort went narrowly wide of the post.

The Turkish international shot wide a further two times in the opening half, while a decent spell of possession for the visitors resulted in Nacho firing straight at Thibaut Courtois.

Madrid had a succession of corners in the final minutes of the half before Mario Suarez put his effort off target.
