Half-Time Report: Athletic Bilbao lead on away goals

After 45 minutes at San Mames, Athletic Bilbao are leading Serie A outfit Napoli on away goals.

Forty-five minutes separate Athletic Bilbao from a place in the group stages of the Champions League for the first time in 16 years.

The La Liga outfit earned a 1-1 draw away in Naples last week and after the first half at the San Mames tonight the scoreline is 0-0, which would see Bilbao advance on the away goals rule.

The opening chance went the way of Bilbao defender Carlos Gurpegi in the 23rd minute, but despite getting the necessary power on his header, it was lacking in direction and the ball drifted wide of the target.

Then, four minutes later, Bilbao's Aymeric Laporte was played in by Iker Muniain only for his low effort to fly over the crossbar.

As the half drew to a close, Napoli started to have more possession, but they failed to create any goalscoring chances of note.
