Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert denies John Arne Riise's claims that he is interested in signing him.

Aston Villa boss Paul Lambert has rubbished speculation linking him with a move for John Arne Riise.

The denial comes two days after the free agent claimed that the Villans were among the English clubs interested in signing him up following his release from Fulham.

When asked by reporters if Villa had approached the former Liverpool defender, Lambert said: "It certainly wasn't with myself, that's for sure.

"That's not one I've even thought about to be honest with you, it must be the rumour mill."

The Norway international made 20 Premier League appearances for the Cottagers last season.
