Aston Villa have confirmed that striker Nicklas Helenius has returned to former club Aalborg BK on a season-long loan.

The 23-year-old joined Villa on a three-year deal last summer, but a failure to make an impact in the Premier League has seen him go back to his native Denmark.

Helenius scored one goal in six appearances for the Villans during the 2013-14 campaign.

Villa get their Premier League campaign underway away to Stoke City on August 16.
