Aston Villa captain Ron Vlaar is reportedly ready to open contract discussions with the club.

Ron Vlaar has reportedly told Aston Villa that he is ready to begin discussions on a new contract.

The Dutch defender has established himself as an important member of the Villa squad after being given the captaincy, and the centre-back was linked with a move away during the summer after an impressive World Cup with the Netherlands.

However, according to The Mirror, Vlaar has indicated that he wants to extend his stay at Villa Park.

Villa have recently secured extensions for Gabriel Agbonlahor and manager Paul Lambert, and are keen to do the same with their skipper.
