Aston Villa are reportedly eager to appoint a new manager this week in order to begin their preparations for the new season.

The Midlands outfit have been in the hunt for a boss after sacking Alex McLeish a fortnight ago.

After failing to capture Molde coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, reports have claimed that the Premier League outfit remain keen on luring Wigan Athletic boss Roberto Martinez to Villa Park but are determined to wrap up any deals this week, according to The Express.

The Latics boss is expected to make a decision on his future this week as the 38-year-old prepares to undergo a second round of talks with Liverpool's American owners today in order to discuss becoming Kenny Dalglish's successor.
