Half-Time Report: Gabriel Agbonlahor gives Aston Villa the lead against Southampton

Gabriel Agbonlahor scores as Aston Villa take a 1-0 lead into the break in their Premier League clash against Southampton.

Aston Villa are on course to end their seven-game winless run in the Premier League by taking a 1-0 half-time lead over Southampton this evening.

The visitors started the game brightly, with Morgan Schneiderlin and Sadio Mane both firing efforts wide in the early stages.

However, it was Villa who took the lead when Gabriel Agbonlahor latched on to a long clearance from Ciaran Clark, before rounding the onrushing Fraser Forster and sliding the ball into the net.

Mane then came close to scoring an equaliser for the Saints with a curling effort from the edge of the box that was tipped wide of the post by Brad Guzan.

Jose Fonte was the next Southampton player to threaten Guzan's goal, but after meeting Schneiderlin's corner, he headed straight at the keeper.
