Dimitri Payet 'has £15m relegation clause'

Dimitri Payet apparently has a buyout clause of just £15m in the event that West Ham United are relegated to the Championship.

West Ham United attacker Dimitri Payet can reportedly leave the club for just £15m in the event that they are relegated to the Championship.

The 29-year-old is one of the top flight's most creative players and has been linked with a number of clubs, including Arsenal, after his breakout season with the Hammers last term.

Payet signed a new five-year deal with the London side in February worth a club-record £125,000 a week in wages, but according to The Times, the new contract also included a £15m "relegation clause".

West Ham are understood to be keen to renegotiate Payet's contract again this season, offering him a higher wage and attempting to remove or increase the relegation clause, although "it is unclear whether the player would accept such terms".

The Hammers have endured a tough start to the new season following their move to the London Stadium and currently sit just a point and a place outside of the relegation zone.

Payet joined the club in June 2015 from Ligue 1 side Marseille for a reported fee of £10.7m.
