Arsene Wenger targeting 'strong start' to new season

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger says that his players are "motivated to start well" in order to match pre-season expectations and challenge for the title.

Arsene Wenger has urged his Arsenal players to hit the ground running when they get their Premier League campaign underway this weekend.

The Gunners have been backed by many to challenge for the title this term following a strong second half to last season.

Arsenal kick things off with a home match against West Ham United on Sunday afternoon, before heading to Crystal Palace a week later.

Speaking to reporters on the eve of the new season, Wenger stressed the importance of learning from last time out and getting off to a positive start.

"We're ready for a fight and we're motivated to start well," the Frenchman said. "One of our targets is to start strong. We have the needed ingredients to succeed but we have a tricky start with two London derbies."

Arsenal defeated Chelsea 1-0 at Wembley last weekend to lift the 2015 Community Shield.
