Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger compares midfielder Aaron Ramsey to Frank Lampard

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger compares Welsh midfielder Aaron Ramsay to Chelsea legend Frank Lampard.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has compared his star midfielder Aaron Ramsey to Frank Lampard.

The Gunners boss believes that Ramsey's emergence as one of Arsenal's top players has led to him feeling pressured to score goals when he should concentrate on being a midfielder first and foremost.

"He is a Lampard type and when you watch the picture again, who is in the box? Oh, my friend Aaron is there!" Wenger is quoted as saying by The Mirror. "But he has to start from midfield. What is my job? Midfielder, win the ball and give a good pass.

"I believe he felt a bit more pressure to score. You have always to come back to basics. He has a natural engine and a consequence of that is he will have chances, but if every time you play you think you have to score, and every time you want to be in the box, you forget a little bit about the basics of the job.

"So when he sometimes makes a mistake, it is a spectacular one. But if you look at his overall contribution to the team it is always fantastic."

Ramsey has two goals to his name this season and has created 11 goalscoring chances.
