Arsene Wenger predicts "great season" for Jack Wilshere

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger believes that midfielder Jack Wilshere will have a "great season" with the Gunners if he can remain fit for the duration of the campaign.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has backed Jack Wilshere to perform in what he describes as a "big season" for the midfielder.

Wilshere made 24 appearances in the Premier League last season as he continued to be restricted by injury, but with Wenger indicating that his ankle problems are in the past, he believes that the England international can have a "great season" at the Emirates Stadium.

The Frenchman told reporters: "It's a big season for Jack but he's in the best shape that he's been for three years.

"He has prepared and he has got over his ankle problems. I think that he will have a great season but it's a very important season for him."

Wilshere has featured for the Gunners on 132 occasions since making his first-team debut in 2008.
