Benik Afobe 'turned down' Premier League clubs to join Wolverhampton Wanderers

In-form striker Benik Afobe reveals that 17 clubs, including two from the Premier League, were interested in him before he joined Wolverhampton Wanderers last month.

In-form Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Benik Afobe has claimed that he could have joined a Premier League club instead of signing for Wolves.

The 22-year-old has scored five goals in seven games since joining from boyhood club Arsenal, and told Wolves' matchday programme that there were 17 clubs interested in services last month, including two from the top flight.

"Two Premier League clubs wanted me and about 15 Championship clubs showed an interest as well," he said.

"But I was trying to think clever and moving to the Championship or the Premier League was something I really had to discuss with my family.

"I spoke to my family and agent and I came to the decision I wanted to come to Wolves."

Afobe now has 24 goals this season after scoring 19 in all competitions on loan at MK Dons in the first half of the campaign.

Wolves play host to Fulham in the Championship later this evening.
